The Office of Independent Review (OIR) is currently in the process of gathering information on the custodial connected deaths for the year 2023. Once all information is gathered, the OIR will proceed to write up individual reports regarding the custodial connected deaths, these reports will be published here.
In 2023, there were a total of 6 custodial connected deaths, with the manner of death classified as Accident, Natural, Suicide, or Undetermined. Each cause of death is detailed within the respective bar in the visualization. Specifically, for overdose cases, the type of drug involved—such as Fentanyl (FEN)—is indicated. On the x-axis, you can see the number of days the individual was in custody prior to their death. Below you will find more data on each individual custodial connected death.
